bheka Teardrop Support Cushion
The bheka Teardrop Support Cushion opens the upper back, supports the mid-back and tractions the lower spine. Thus, a unique and effective remedy for back pain.
Made of the same sturdy cotton canvas used with the bheka studio-quality Round and Rectangular Bolsters. Filled with form-fitting organic buckwheat, double stitched, and built to last.
Each Teardrop Support Cushion weighs a little over 4 pounds and measures about 14 inches long and 5 inches high. There is a convenient zipper for adding and removing stuffing and a carry handle on the underside of the cushion. Also, note the starched cotton canvas cover for extra durability. This creates wrinkling when the item is new. Once the fabric relaxes it will smooth out. The cover is a durable cotton canvas dyed with AZO-free dyes and starched for durability and water repellence/ easy cleaning.

Paying careful attention to how you use the cushion will enhance your experience. It is nice to have the Teardrop on a comfortably padded flat surface like a yoga mat with a blanket on it. The surface should be firm but comfortable to lie in. Snug the Teardrop near your tail-bone and lie back very slowly along the length of it. Go as slowly as you can and then go even slower! This pace will help you to feel the support of the cushion and small changes as they happen. It will also allow time for your blood pressure to adjust to the change from an upright position to lying back. Have a cushion nearby to support your head in case you do not want to go all the way back today. There is no right way to do this. Follow your intuition to what feels right for you.
While the most common benefit of the Teardrop Support Cushion is to open the spaces between the vertebrae, restore the natural arch of the spine and relieve discomfort, it is useful for opening the chest, expanding the lungs and relaxing the entire body.
Positive results like the relief of back pain, sciatica and peroneal nerve discomfort can often be felt immediately. For long-lasting results and help with spinal curvature, lordosis, kyphosis and the like, 5 minutes to 20 minutes a day of use is desirable.
Once you are comfortably laying back relax completely and let your mind focus on the compressive force of the cushion against your back, the tractioning and elongation of your spine, the enhanced curve of the upper back and whatever is alive in you today. You may feel exposed or open-hearted, anxious or joyful. Witness these things as you focus on sensation. You may feel moved to do variations with your arms and legs. This supported position is a great place to work on the pelvis and hips as well as a good launching point for stretches that affect the interstitial muscles, neck, and shoulders. Again, let your intuition guide you.
When you are done, an easy gentle way to come off the cushion is to bend your knees so your feet are flat on the surface you are laying in. Let the knees drop to the side, then roll your torso off the Teardrop in the same direction. Lie in this fetal position for a few breaths taking in the changes brought on by the use of the Teardrop. You may want to move the Teardrop and lay flat for a few breaths as well. When you are ready, get up in whatever way makes sense for you.

Wanted to let you know that I have been using the "teardrop". I love it - as do my clients. It’s a great product.

I have used my Teardrop for several years, and love it. I use it several times a week, in part to help correct a structural problem in my upper back, but also because it is fun to work with. I can demonstrably stand up straighter after using it.

I really love the Teardrop pillow/tool. I used it quite a bit during shavasana, but also before bedtime. Seems like it opens me up, and I feel less sluggish and congested when I wake up in the AM. Not sure how that works, but it does. I don't use it that often in the AM. Seems like the evening use is more important for my well being. Just 5-10 min before bedtime opens me up. I also use it some in my feldenkrais practice, if I am doing movements on my back. It really is a great tool, and by far the most effective tool to open up the front. Some of the other tools for that such as foam rollers and other tools are uncomfortable to rest on, and therefore makes me tense up. The Teardrop is perfect. I can rest on it for long periods of time. As I continue to use the pillow I find that it also doubles as a meditation cushion. It is perfect for sitting on as well as opening you up. It is one of the best tools I have, since it can be used for so much. The size and shape makes it so useful!
