Teardrop Support Yoga Cushion

The unique design of the Teardrop support enables it to open your upper back, support your mid-back and traction your lower spine. The overall effect frees most back pain sufferers from discomfort.

The Teardrop Support yoga cushion is the most effective, comfortable, and least expensive back arch available anywhere. Made using the same sturdy cotton canvas that we use in our studio-quality round and rectangular bheka Bolsters, these little organic buckwheat hull filled back supports are double stitched and built to last.

While the most common benefit of the Teardrop Support yoga Cushion is to open the spaces between the vertebrae, restore the natural arch of the spine and relieve discomfort, it is useful for opening the chest, expanding the lungs and relaxing the entire body.

It also makes it easy to apply a gentle compressive force to hard to reach areas of the spine. With the tapered end near the tail bone and lying back, the bolster tractions the lumbar vertebrae and opens and expands the thoracic spine with a gentle compressive force. With the blunt end near the tail-bone, more compressive force is applied to the lumbar region and there is a tractioning effect on the thoracic spine. Positive results like the relief of back pain, sciatica, and peroneal nerve discomfort can often be felt immediately. For long-lasting results and help with spinal curvature, lordosis, kyphosis, and the like, 5 minutes to 20 minutes a day of use is desirable.

Paying careful attention to how you use the cushion will enhance your experience. It is nice to have the Teardrop on a comfortably padded flat surface like a yoga mat with a blanket on it. The surface should be firm but comfortable to lie in. Snug the Teardrop near your tail-bone and lie back very slowly along the length of it. Go as slowly as you can and then go even slower! This pace will help you to feel the support of the cushion and small changes as they happen. It will also allow time for your blood pressure to adjust to the change from an upright position to lying back. Have a cushion nearby to support your head in case you do not want to go all the way back today. There is no right way to do this. Follow your intuition to what feels right for you.

Once you are comfortably laying back relax completely and let your mind focus on the compressive force of the cushion against your back, the tractioning and elongation of your spine, the enhanced curve of the upper back, and whatever is alive in you today. You may feel exposed or open-hearted, anxious, or joyful. Witness these things as you focus on sensation. You may feel moved to do variations with your arms and legs. This supported position is a great place to work on the pelvis and hips as well as a good launching point for stretches that affect the interstitial muscles, neck, and shoulders. Again, let your intuition guide you.

When you are done, an easy gentle way to come off the cushion is to bend your knees so your feet are flat on the surface you are laying in. Let the knees drop to the side, then roll your torso off the Teardrop in the same direction. Lie in this fetal position for a few breaths taking in the changes brought on by the use of the Teardrop. You may want to move the Teardrop and lay flat for a few breaths as well. When you are ready get up in whatever way makes sense for you.

Each Teardrop support weighs a little over 4 pounds and measures about 14 inches long and 5 inches high. There is a convenient zipper for adding and removing stuffing and a carry handle on the underside of the cushion. Also, note the cotton canvas cover is starched for extra durability. This creates wrinkling when the item is new. Once the fabric relaxes it will smooth out. The cover is a durable cotton canvas dyed with AZO-free dyes and starched for durability and water repellence/ easy cleaning. The filling is body conforming buckwheat hulls.
