Love
From Me to You! February
2009
Happy
V-day from Yoga Life Style
What
is yoga but a path to coming into contact with your true
nature of pure love and light. This month's offerings all
lead in
that direction from different angles.
From staying healthy and growing physically with Kino MacGregor
to understanding the world and our place in it with the Bhagavad
Gita, from gently easing into inverted poses with the Headstander
to adorning ourselves with reminders of spirit with our ongoing
jewelry sale. Ways are many. God is one. Enjoy!

Water
CD
Water by Alex Theory is exactly
the kind of music I like as accompaniment to meditative practices.
It is muted and diffuse, gentle and non-intrusive. It is interesting
enough to capture attention for a few moments and subdued enough
to be easily ignored, as one dives deeper into self. |

Best
of Wah! CD
The Best of Wah! is a quintessential chant CD for
today. Using traditional chants and instrumentation mixed with world and pop
influences, Wah! and her band create beautiful, catchy and evocative tracks that
will make it easy for you to be humming the names of the Lord while listening
and later while the tunes are caught in your head. |

NEW
"PLACES" Navigation on
Yoga Life Style Website
As the site has grown, it has gotten harder and harder
to find specific items. We only had one item in early '02 and six years later
we have over 1800 and our navigation scheme has not kept pace. Our place pages
will group items from clear themes together. Hopefully, some of them will be
interest areas for you. |

The
Bhagavad Gita Audio Book
What
better text to be an audio book than "The Lord's Song" or Bhagavad Gita. The
lovely and accessible Juan Mascaro translation is portrayed here by a lively
ensemble cast. Musical backgrounds and high production standards make this a
great way
to recieve the core wisdom of Yoga. |
One
of the great things about Yoga is that it slows you
down enough to begin to hear from yourself. I think
a lot of serious yogis begin to come in contact with
what is real and then get stuck by old patterned responses
to what comes up. They hear Chitta Vritti Nirodaha
and think it means that they should cease to have emotions,
so they spend lots of time developing sensitivity and
then suppressing and rationalizing and ignoring their
felt sense of the world and the accompanying emotions.
I've done this alot and still do it more than I'd like.
Over the last few years, however, I've come to a different understanding of the
scriptures. The cessation of the fluctuations of mind means greater identification
with the
calm core self, the observer who sees all things, endures all hardships and celebrates
all joys while remaining unchanged. Emotions may rage but the mind does not follow.
It accepts and encourages all things, remaining ready for right action.
While reviewing the Gita Audio book I heard the following and had an "aha" moment. "Even
as all waters flow into the ocean, but the ocean never overflows, even so the
sage feels desires, but he is ever one in his infinite peace." That's it.
Everything is still in play and experienced. All joys and sorrows, pleasures
and pains, boredom and tranquility are sensed from our place of steady love and
compassion
deep within that witnesses, absorbs and incorporates them.
Remember to be good to yourself and to those around you this Valentine's Day
and
everyday and you can't go wrong.
Peace and Love,
Ray
