OM Namah Shivaya Gurave — "I bow to the goodness within
myself, known as Lord Shiva, who is the true teacher…" This
phrase begins a chant that Yogis and meditation practitioners from
all over the globe sing as a prayer to invoke Grace, and blessings
on their practices. Now, Ty Burhoe has composed stirring music to
accompany this sacred chant. He is joined by some of the world's
top musicians from the yoga, World Music, and Classical Indian Music
traditions

Ty Burhoe has been a disciple of the
great tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, since 1990. Ty is known
for his sensitive accompaniment and melodious style. While his
intense study of the classical tradition and his touring as a classical
accompanist continues to grow, he is also internationally recognized
for being instrumental in creating unusual collaborations that
weave tabla with the traditions of Jazz, African, Flamenco, Rock,
Celtic, Chinese, Bluegrass, and fusion. He has become well known
not only for his talents as a tabla player, but also for his extensive
experience as a recording and live concert producer. In 2004, he
created the record label, Tala Records, and since 1994 has run
a concert production company called Tala Productions. Ty works
with a broad range of artists including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Art
Lande, Krishna Das, Curandero (Miguel Espinoza), Ustad Sultan Khan,
Bela Fleck, Kitaro, Rick Alan, Howard Levy, and many more. He is
the tour assistant for his teacher Ustad Zakir Hussain, touring
and helping produce concerts in North America and Canada. Ty also
teaches drumming retreats and tabla intensives throughout the world
and composes / plays on soundtracks for film and video, including
the recent academy award winning documentary, "Born into Brothels".
Krishna Das first traveled to India
in 1970 where he met his guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaji.) Through
Maharaji, he was introduced to the devotional practice of kirtan,
an ancient method of heart purification. He has released several
CDs and now leads chanting workshops around the world, helping
seekers to turn within and find their own inner understanding.
Sharing his heart through music and chanting is the basis of Krishna
Das' own spiritual work: his way of serving the Divine within himself
and others. His CDs have gained international attention (two of
his recent recordings having been produced by the legendary Rick
Rubin) and his tours consistently sell out venues worldwide. His
simple and intimate style of call and response chanting invites
those who come to feel involved in a much larger presence.
John Friend has been a seriously playful
student of yoga since 1973. John has become one of the most charismatic
and respected hatha yoga teachers in the country. With a deep longing
to know the mysteries of life, John began a regular practice of
hatha yoga and meditation at age 13. In the early ‘90’s
John began teaching popular yoga seminars throughout the US as
he became renowned for his deep knowledge of yoga philosophy and
biomechanics, his hilarious sense of humor, and his open-hearted
approach. In 1997, John founded Anusara Yoga, now one of the fastest
growing styles of hatha yoga in the world. Anusara Yoga is uniquely
transformational in its integration of Universal Principles of
Alignment with a life-affirming, heart-oriented Tantric philosophy.
Today John lives in The Woodlands, Texas, and travels extensively
throughout the world spreading the magic of Anusara Yoga.
Manorama is the director of the School
of Sanskrit Studies and leads workshops on the Path of Luminous
Shabda, a path that combines Sanskrit, Meditation, and Yoga philosophy.
She leads workshops throughout the US, as well as in Europe and
Canada. Manorama's extensive knowledge of the Sanskrit language,
combined with her powerful singing voice were born from years of
close study with her Guru, Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati. Other releases
with Manorama include: Sarva-Bhuteshu ‘In All Beings,’ Mrtyunjaya
Mantra Healing Prayer, Learn to Chant Yoga Invocations and Learn
to Pronounce Yoga Poses. Manorama is a graduate of Columbia University.
Amy Ippoliti grew up singing live with
her father and sister and recording at a very young age. It was
not until she began studying Sanskrit and chanting, that her voice
and throat opened, allowing her to sing with more confidence and
resonance. Amy has sang on several chant recordings including Krishna
Das’s “Breath of the Heart”, and “All One”,
as well as “The Love Window”, by Shantala. A student
of yoga since 1986, Amy’s study of hatha yoga, pranayama,
yoga therapeutics, and yoga philosophy led her to become a certified
Anusara Yoga teacher in 2000. She has traveled extensively with
Anusara founder, John Friend, apprenticing with him on his national
tours. Amy leads Anusara Yoga retreats, workshops, immersions,
and teacher trainings internationally, often weaving the art of
Sound Vibration/Rhythm with the practice of Anusara Yoga. Amy has
oceans-full of gratitude for all her teachers, yoga and otherwise,
especially John Friend, Douglas Brooks, and all of her students.
