Instruction
Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha
by Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Whoa! Stop here. This
is a great, great book for anyone interested in traditional
hatha/raja yoga. Hundreds of poses are completely
explained in 3 major categories, beginners, intermediate
and advanced. While all the major poses are covered,
many, many valuable exercises that are not seen in most classes
or books are also detailed here. There are postures for
the hands, feet and eyes, for improved digestion and
much
more. As the name of the book implies, there are wonderful,
in depth sections on pranayama, mudra and bandha. Also
included are chapters on shatkriya
(which is the most extensive I've seen in
print) and the psychic
physiology of yoga as represented by the chakra system.
If any book rivals Light on Yoga as the complete primer,
this
is it. Need I say more?
This book is dedicated to
Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh who initiated the author Swami
Satyananda Saraswati into the secrets of yoga. Swami
Satyananda studied at the feet of Swami Sivananda for 12 years,
before establishing the International Yoga Fellowship and the
Bihar School of Yoga. He has toured internationally and
authored over 80 books. |
